I've only had good memories about this game for the past few years, so I've decided to replay it. And I must say, time was not kind to it.

It's clear this was a high budget game with a highly ambitious concept, but most of it just ends up being so annoyingly bland and characterless. Even though I still honestly love the story and the concept, most of the script is just poorly written and straight up boring. And I feel like the non-chronological storytelling only does it worse - most of the jumps in the story are just too far in-between and feel disconnected.

And next to that, I can't say that how this game mechanically plays out helps it either. The camera jumps combined with that god awful movement is just so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying. I see this as a valid reason why someone might just give up on the game. And switching from a keyboard and a mouse to a controller doesn't really make it any better. Someone also thought that not adding sprinting was a good idea... So most of the time you're just bored out walking to the next checkpoint. Hopefully not the same guy that had an idea of unskippable cutscenes and post-credits, so every time you quit the game and wish to continue, you have to play long ass cutscenes all over again.

Now onto some of the highlights. I think the "The Mission" was a decent chapter. I was invested, and I honestly wish more of the game was like so. But what honestly impresses me, even to this day, is the ending. I'm not gonna talk about the annoying choice you're left at the end, but I still love the way the "Briefing", "Dragon's Hideout" and "Black Sun" chapters develop. It feels like it actually has some character and kind of impacts me even today.

This actually reminds me to mention that I really appreciate most of the acting here, but ultimately the script kind of makes it uninteresting. So, it leaves me to wonder, what happened here? Was the budget cut because of all these actors and all the mocap performances (ironically most of the time animations are just buggy and they suddenly switch in-between different expressions) combined with some really impressive graphics for it's time, with a great soundtrack by the man Hans Zimmer himself?

I don't know. My peculiarity of completing games kept me from all the boringness just to replay the final part once again, a part that kept this game in a positive light in my memory for all these years. And honestly I'm glad I did so. I still love it as the day I first played it.

So is it worth playing? Yeah. Just keep in mind that there are some things that might irritate you.

I love this game, I've played it in duo and it was perfect. Maybe not equal between the two players for the choices and time of play but it was fun. Totally recommend this game and all the other from Quantic Dream (like Detroit become human or heavy rain)
  • Control are not too hard (can choose between hard and easy)
  • Good story
  • Long story with choice
  • Equality between the players
  • Choice is not as important as Detroit become human
Useful?
The story is way cooler than the gameplay, that's mediocre.
  • Excellent story
  • Movie quality acting
  • Gameplay is boring

I love games full of action with good story line. This game has it all with great graphics and music. I love that they made so many audio language version making this game even better. It's a shame there are only few games like that on PC, much more on consoles. They should change it.
